Date: 24th Oct 24: New guidance released to support families and care givers with reporting concerns regarding diabetes equipment.

Link is below however the key messages for practitioners working with families who have children issued with diabetes management equipment are:

  • Insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices are complex devices with the potential to result in serious harm in the event of error.
  • Users of the equipment need to know how to report safety issues to the MHRA
  • Remind patients that if they suspect a problem with their device, they should be advised to use an alternative method to manage their diabetes
  • Report problems and adverse incidents associated with medical devices used in the management of diabetes on a yellow card
